Round Roman Parma inspired shield with carved lion head relief

This shield features a lion head carved out of wild cherry wood, attached to the center of the plywood base, with ornamental relief carved along the rim.
This shield is inspired by the Roman Parma shield design.
Lion symbolism and meaning include majesty, courage, strength, protection, family, wisdom, and other admirable traits. 
The shield base is made out of 15mm thick birch plywood and finished with wood staining, painting, and varnishing with linen seed oil ( lion head ) and acrylic transparent coating. The lion head composition was carved separately on a 50 mm thick stabilized wild cherry or beech wood piece, and attached to the base.
